Former Newcastle and Liverpool midfielder Shelvey is currently playing for the Arabian Falcons in the United Arab Emirates Second Division (third level). He talked about a series of issues such as his income in an interview with the BBC.

Shelvey estimated that there were only 75 fans watching the team's game live, and the video of his missed penalty kick on social media had more than one million views.

In this regard, Shelvey said: "It didn't affect me at all," he said. "Later I saw some comments, such as 'He went there just for the money.' I thought at the time, 'What money? There is no money in the UAE Second Division.'

"The standard monthly salary of football players here is about 2,000 pounds. That's nothing compared to what I've made throughout my career. My brother works in a hotel in London and makes more than that, so I'm definitely not here for the money.

"My peak period has passed, and now I am very happy and satisfied. I just want to enjoy football now, wake up every day to enjoy my job, and spend more time with my family. That is enough.

"To be honest, I don't want my children to grow up in the UK. Luckily we lived in a nice part of the UK, but in my opinion you just can't have nice things where I'm from.

"Now in London, I would never wear a watch. And in my opinion, I don't dare to take out my mobile phone in London."

According to data from the London Police Department, about 80,000 mobile phones were stolen in London last year. In the past 12 months, there have been several high-profile thefts in London.
