Causes and prevention methods of uterine insufflation in cats!
Every pregnancy of a pet is a test of vitality. Not only does it cause difficult labor caused by various factors that threaten the pet's life, but various postpartum complications will also affect the pet's health. Especially elderly pets who have passed the best period of childbirth are more susceptible to difficult labor and postpartum diseases. Last month, our hospital received a newly-born ordinary domestic cat. The owner described the female cat as having obvious symptoms of abdominal pain such as archery abdomen and trembling after giving birth. After various examinations, the cat was diagnosed with postpartum uterine horn insposporus.
1. Animal disease situation
Ordinary domestic cat, eight years old, has normal prenatal spirit and appetite. The cat gave birth and gave birth to a baby in the afternoon of March 20. Three hours later, no second kitten was born. A veterinarian from another pet hospital checked that there was a kitten in the womb of the pregnant cat. In order to help the female cat give birth, the pet doctor injected oxytocin into the mother cat and reached into the birth canal with his hands to pull the baby cat. After about ten minutes of maternity, the cat was pulled out. The female cat is currently in poor spirits, has lost appetite, has abdominal pain, and has stenchy and brown secretions constantly flowing out of the birth canal.
2. Overall and general examination
Lying on your back, gently palpate the abdomen of the sick cat with your hands. The sick cat looked up from time to time and made painful screams. As the sick cat shouted, a small amount of brown secretions flowed out of the birth canal. The sick cat's eyeballs were sunken, and the conjunctiva and oral mucosa were light red. Body temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, breathing is 35 times/min, and pulse is 144 times/min. The cat auscultation had an arrhythmia and the intestinal peristalsis sound disappeared.
1. Abdominal palpation The sick cat was lying on the right side of Baoding. The examiner used his hands to palpate the sick cat from the left and right abdominal walls. There was a solid object about three fingers wide between his hands, which looked like sausage. The sick cat made painful screams, and a large amount of foul-smelling brown content flowed out of the birth canal.
2. Vaginal exploration: The sick cat is subjected to high and low-income premature premature treatment. Use pet vaginal cleaning solution to clean the vulva of the sick cat, disinfect the right hand, insert the index finger of the right hand into the birth canal for examination, and gently squeeze the uterus from the lower part of the abdomen to the entrance of the pelvis. Only one index finger can pass through the cervix. The index finger of the right hand continues to extend forward into the uterine cavity for examination. There is no fetus in the uterine cavity, but there is a lot of liquid content; continue to extend the index finger of the right hand into the corner of the uterine to examine. After examination, the right uterine corner is normal, and there is a solid object on the left uterine corner. The left hand touches the solid object from the outside. The initial diagnosis may be uterine insufflation.
3. Laboratory examination
1. Blood examination
After blood collection, routine blood and blood biochemical examinations were performed. The values were basically in the normal range. It was determined that because the onset time was short, bacterial infection in the birth canal had not yet been caused.
2. Sampling and examination of birth canal secretions
Take birth canal excrement for smearing and staining, and finally a small amount of Staphylococcus aureus was seen in the microscopic examination. It indicates that there is no obvious infection in the birth canal.
4. Instrumental examination
Finally, after B-ultrasound and X-ray examination, the cat was diagnosed with postpartum uterine inspouting.
5. Treatment measures
There are generally two treatment measures for postpartum uterine inspillarity in cats: conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Considering that the cat's uterine inspillar is more serious and timely conservative treatment may also cause recurrence, we decided to take surgical treatment with the consent of the pet owner.
1. Preoperative preparation
(1) Infusion of 5% GS, adenosine triphosphate, COA, Vc during the operation;
(2) The sick cat was lying on the right side of Baoding; with the left abdominal wall as the entrance to the surgery, the surgical part was sheared and shaved, and the iodine disinfected, and the invasive towel was isolated; local anesthesia was performed with 0.5% procaine hydrochloride.
(3) Surgical instruments: Conventional obstetric surgical instruments such as scalpels, surgical scissors, hemostasis forceps must undergo high-temperature steam sterilization.
(4) Preparation and disinfection of surgical personnel: Soak the arms with 0.1% Xinjielm solution.
2. During the surgical procedure, the skin and subcutaneous tissue are incised, the abdominal wall muscles are separated, and the peritoneum is incised by reverse-pull method to reveal the abdominal cavity. Perform abdominal cavity exploration and lead to sausage-like organs: Extend the index finger and middle finger of the left hand into the abdominal cavity for exploration, and pull the sausage-like organs outside the incision. After examination, it was the left uterine angle of the intumes piled up. The uterine angle of the intumes piled up was measured to be three centimeters long and two centimeters in diameter, with a small amount of blood stasis, and the uterine contraction was weak. Hold the left uterine corner near the end of the fallopian tube with your right hand, hold the uterine corner near the body of the uterus with your left hand, and gently pull the right hand outward. After several gentle pulls, the uterine corner of the uterus is reset. Uterine wall injection is performed by multiple points, rinsing the uterine wall with warm saline, and returning the uterine to the abdominal cavity. Perform spiral sutures on the peritoneal and abdominal wall muscles; nodules on the skin and organize the skin to inflict edges. Disinfect the skin incision with 5% iodine tincture cotton balls and tie a bandage. The operation is over.
3. Postoperative nursing
3. Infusion treatment for three consecutive days after surgery to prevent infection, and the pet was rinsed with vaginal cleaning solution. After two weeks of follow-up visit, the cat recovered well.
6. Summary:
The uterine insufflation and uterine abduction in a cat are the same pathological process, but the degree of ejaculation between the two is different. In veterinary clinical practice, uterine insufflation, uterine insufflation and uterine abduction can occur in various animals, especially elderly and traditional animals, which are mostly caused by various factors such as elderly and weak, improper midwifery, such as forcibly pulling the fetus.
